Thanks Darth Berkow!
In today's LTTE, Savannah's Public Safety Sovereign takes umbrage with the Savannah Morning News' characterization of two criminal investigations within the Savannah/Chatham Police.
He saved me the trouble.
The piece ran in Sunday's paper, still the most read edition with about double the circulation of today's paper meaning a whole bunch more people saw the misleading article than Darth's attempt to correct the record.
As the Police Pasha points out in his LTTE, the story's headline “Trouble in Metro Police Department” was a bridge too far. The story actually only focused on two officers in trouble, one that had quit already and the other had been investigated by the GBI and came out with no criminal charges.
While I found the first story to be a
fascinating Bonnie and Clyde tale of financial fraud, there
didn't really seem to be enough to hang the guy.
It also didn't seem to point to any type of “thin blue line” cover up to protect the officer within the department.
Basically he and his girlfriend allegedly rented houses they couldn't afford and then ducked out on the rent and went on to rent another house they couldn't afford. They also allegedly tried to buy a house using fake papers.
Again, interesting but without some sign that the department knew about this guy and was covering for him, you don't have a “Troubled Department” story.
Anywho, Berkow's letter is funny, you should read it just for the made up word “testi-lying”.
