Just a few random notes caught my little eye this morning.
From the Vox:
This first one may seem all semantically minor but it is a common mistake that absolutely twists my knickers every time.
"How did the taxpayers of Chatham County get duped into paying for the Coffee Bluff marina deal?"
Yeah. Hon, the City of Savannah is paying for the marina. They are paying for it with City of Savannah taxes that belong to City of Savannah taxpayers.
While I won’t dispute that some of the taxes may come from county folk and folk from out of state and even folk from out of the country, all that money belongs to the City of Savannah and they can spend it on whatever they please.
Of course the SMN doesn’t make such fine distinctions in what passes for journalism and continue to contribute to the ignorance of the masses.
Old people stereotypes in 3, 2, 1…
"Regarding the WWII memorial, many veterans are in wheelchairs or use walkers and it will be very difficult for them to navigate River Street."
"I agree it would be harder for Veterans to visit the memorial on River Street. I am 73 years old and it is hard to climb those stairs and there isn't much parking available on River Street. I think they are making a mistake by not putting it in a square where they can access it easier. I don't understand the council and mayor not being more respectful of veterans.”
And keep those damn kids off my yard and makem turn down that noise they call music too!
I hate to point it out to you geez, but there is an elevator down to River Street right near where they plan to put the memorial.
It is right there at the Hyatt.
Right there at City Hall. It’s been there for like 20 years.
Also, there is a new hotel going up right in front of the memorial site and it will have River Street access via elevator too.
And finally, because apparently American schools stopped teaching basic economic theory sometime in the 80’s:
"The fact that gas made it to $1.40 a gallon from $4 plus just proves that the only reason it was $4 per gallon in the first place was pure greed. Look where that's gotten us."
Yeah, and the sun rotates around the earth and the stars are little pinpricks that allow the light of heaven to shine through in the night.
It ain’t that simple kids.
Gas prices are a complex jell-o salad of supply, demand, speculative commodities investing, the dollar’s value against international currencies and greed. (Greed is the thing that looks like a lima bean while all the other stuff suspended in the jell-o look like fruit.)
